Why should I feel discouraged and why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely and long for heaven and home?
When Jesus is my portion, a constant Friend is He, His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.
His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.
His Eye is on the Sparrow by Civilla Martin
“For much wisdom comes from sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief” Ecclesiastes 1:18
Here we go again, facing another trial in this world. They seem to keep coming our way, and I wonder what we need to do differently. There must be something that I still need to learn. This stubborn mind and heart cannot heed the new understanding consistently, and I feel like an Israelite whining at the rock of life-giving water.
I know that Jesus is with us to the very end of the age promising to never leave us or forsake us. I cast all my cares upon him, because He cares for me, and His burdens are easy. I get that. I believe that. So, why should my heart feel lonely?
I love the LORD, and I trust in Him. He is my all in all. I know I can’t do life without His every moment by moment presence. I can feel Him carry me in His arms and hold me close to His heart. I love those days!
Maybe that is it! I am learning to stay humble and prayerful on my knees aware of my need for His ever- present help in time of trouble. He is my Maker. He is the Maker of heaven and earth. There is nothing too big for him to handle. So, I pray, and I rest in Him alone. I find my place in the shadow of his wings and trust for His perfect plan to be worked out. As I wait, I grow in a greater understanding and wisdom of Him and my life in Him. And in the waiting, I give thanks! I give thanks in all circumstances, because in the suffering He is growing my perseverance, character and hope that will not disappoint!
Father God, today we pray to You and earnestly seek You! You delight in the humble and have a grand inheritance for them that is the very kingdom of heaven! Your plans for Your people are good! You promise to bless the poor in spirit; those who are humble, admitting their absolute need for God. You are my portion, my hope and my constant friend. Thank You for Your Spirit, Your Comforter in my times of trial. Grow in me a character and hope that shares boldly of the spiritual inheritance that is ours in Christ Jesus! Amen
