“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
“I’ll make it fit!” This was my brother’s oft-said exclamation about loading an overstuffed car or making anything fit into a space that poorly fit the object. We often do this with our lives when we venture down a path in an attempt to satisfy our own stubborn desires or when we fail to check to see if our plans align with God’s will. Our will and His will can be incongruent. Worse yet, we sometimes resist God’s will, as Jonah did, and our souls—even sometimes our lives–are left unsettled.
Prayer is a two-way communication. We are not only talking to God, but we are also listening for the Holy Spirit to guide us. When we listen, we can better understand God’s plan for us. Rather than being tossed back and forth, trying to please the world, we can align our plans with God’s and know that he has created a perfect fit.
Dear Lord, You are the perfect loving father, caring for us and guiding us down your path of love, redemption, and righteousness. I pray for You to help me strengthen my prayer life. Please help me to commit to be in constant communication with You so I can hear Your voice. Please grant me the ability to test and approve what is Your will. I pray for Your wisdom to guide my plans. Thank You for Your loving guidance. Help me glorify You by living out Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen
