Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come. When we were overwhelmed by sins, you atoned for our transgressions. Psalm 65:1-3 NIV
For all those with troubled souls, financial problems, relationships in strife, and discouraged hearts, there is one thing that I can tell you, God hears and answers prayer.
That’s what the psalmist says, “O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come.” Ultimately, everybody needs God. Everybody needs to know God. Everybody needs to know that God hears and answers prayer. That’s what is going to bring the whole of humanity to God – the fact that God hears and answers prayer. And there’s one special prayer that He delights to answer above all others and that is the prayer for forgiveness of our sins. When we’ve sinned and failed God and man we don’t need to turn away in despair, we can turn back to God, cry to Him for forgiveness and then we’ll be able to say, as the psalmist says, “When we were overwhelmed by sins, You atoned for our transgressions.”
We can be sure of God’s love since he did so much for us in our helpless estate as Paul writes in Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We were ungodly and enemies of God, yet He sent His Son and whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life! Call out to God the Father, in faith believing in His steadfast love to deliver!
Don’t let fear or guilt or despair keep you from praying. Remember, in the depths of your agony God hears and He answers prayer.
Prayer: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. I humbly come before you and present my need for your help in this situation that I am facing. I confess my sins and ask for the covering of Jesus Christ. I believe Jesus died and rose again for me, so that I can be saved. Search my heart and lead me in the way that is right, good, and lovely. In Jesus name, Amen.
