In a culture where we demand a quick “fix” for everything, God’s Word provides a very different perspective on the word “fix.” Scripture often refers to one dictionary definition of “fix” which is “to direct one’s eyes, attention, or mind steadily or unwaveringly toward.”
Fix:
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13
Wouldn’t it be awe-inspiring if every Christian would direct their eyes, attention, and mind steadily toward the hope of grace through Jesus Christ?! I believe this laser focus on Jesus and His grace would certainly help to bring revival to this world.
Fixing:
“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith…” Hebrews 12:1-2
I am so thankful Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith! Because Christ is perfect Himself, he can transpose His perfection to us through His finished work on the cross. Fixing our eyes upon Jesus is an act of obedience and helps us take personal responsibility to cultivate our faith.
Fixed:
“And He [Jesus] closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.” Luke 4:20
Jesus spoke these words after being given the book of the prophet Isaiah to read in the synagogue. Can you imagine how people were hanging on every word He said not knowing when they would hear Jesus again? We don’t have to wait to hear Jesus at the synagogue – we have His Word with us every day by simply picking up the Bible! How fortunate we are and what endless opportunities we have to fix our eyes upon Him through His Word.
Be challenged to consider how you can “fix” your mind, heart, eyes, and thoughts upon Jesus today!
Prayer: Dear Lord, please show me what it looks like to truly fix my eyes upon You. Take away the earthly distractions that lead me away from You. Help me recognize those distractions that are clearly hindrances to a deeper relationship with You. Thank you that You are the author and perfecter of my faith. Help me to have steadfast obedience to seek You, Your Will, and Your Word in my daily life. I love you Lord!
